Marketing planning

Today the Olympic Games in Beijing are opened and in September 2003 their marketing plan was launched! Preparing a plan 5 years before an event is essential for major events. It’s like a product launch as it often takes a while to get a product to market. First there is the idea, followed by some research to check the viability. When the viability or feasibility stage has been completed, the next step is the route to market. This may involve further research depending on whether it’s aimed at existing or new clients, or members. The great thing with the Olympic Games is that it’s on a fixed schedule with the host country selected in advance and a specific team is created to make it happen. Best of luck to all the competitors – without the participants none of it would happen!
